IIoT and Automation spend in the Oil & Gas Industry set to grow, Perle confirms
Network Connectivity solutions enable Oil & Gas Titans to improve efficiency & preserve margins
NASHVILLE, TN - May 21, 2015 — Low crude oil prices have reduced rig contract signings, headcounts, drilling and exploration for most companies in the oil and gas industry. However, in the “Oil and Gas Digital and Technology Trends Survey 2015,” recently released by Microsoft and Accenture, investments in digital technology, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and automation will continue. 1
Perle Systems, a global manufacturer of advanced Serial to Ethernet and secure device networking hardware, provides industrial networking products used in subsea, topside, onshore and hazardous locations.
“When our oil and gas customers started announcing cost cutting measures, we believed that our sales opportunities into this sector where going to suffer,” comments John Feeney, COO at Perle Systems. “However, the opposite has proved to be true. Interesting new projects for companies in the oil and gas industry continue to grow.”
Rich Holsman, global head of digital in Accenture’s energy industry group said, “Oil and gas industry leaders continue to look to digital technologies as a way to address some of the key challenges the industry faces today in this lower crude oil price cycle. Making the most of big data, IIoT and automation are indeed the next big opportunities for energy and oilfield services companies, and many are already starting work in these areas. They are increasing investments in enabling people and assets, with a growing emphasis on developing data supply chains to support analytics projects that can improve efficiencies, manage cost and provide a competitive edge. Our survey tells us that companies who do not continue to invest in digital technologies risk being left behind.”
Perle device networking hardware is used for automation and IIoT Ethernet connectivity by oil and gas industry leaders like Chevron, Spectra Energy, Total, Schlumberger, Apache, Shell and Peabody Energy. A sample list of customers and case studies can be found here .
