First to Deliver Extensive Encryption with IPV6 Support
New IOLAN DS1 and SDS1 Single-Port Serial Terminal Servers provide security and investment protection for evolving networks
NASHVILLE, TN - February 21, 2005 — Perle Systems today announced the expansion of its popular IOLAN+ terminal server family with the release of two next-generation single port serial terminal servers - the IOLAN DS1 and IOLAN SDS1. Featuring the most extensive range of encryption technologies available today, and the power of a high-performance 87 MIP processor, these servers are ideal for secure console management, confidential serial data encryption, and/or simple serial to Ethernet applications. With this product launch, Perle is also the first vendor to incorporate IP Version 6 support into a single-port serial terminal server.
The robust security, flexibility and advanced IP technology of the IOLAN DS1 and SDS1 help organizations increase the value of their serial-based equipment. This is achieved by allowing secure information delivery across an existing Ethernet network without the need for costly and complex infrastructure changes

Efficient Serial-to-Ethernet Connectivity
The IOLAN DS1 is an easy-to-install device for connecting serial-based
COM port, UDP or TCP socket-based applications to remote devices.
Perle's TruePort virtual COM driver operates with a wide range of
server operating systems, enabling communication with a diverse range
of remote devices connected to Perle device servers. Easy to set
up and manage, the IOLAN DS' software-selectable EIA-232/422/485
interface capability simplifies configuration and eliminates mechanical
tampering associated with DIP switch based products
Secure Data and Console Management
IOLAN SDS1's advanced encryption technology protects sensitive and
confidential data from a serial device - such as a credit card reader
- before being sent across a corporate Intranet or public Internet.
It does this by enabling administrators to securely access remote
serial console ports on equipment such as PBX, servers, routers,
network storage equipment and security appliances through an IP network.
Standard encryption tools such as Secure Shell (SSH) and Secure Sockets
Layer (SSL) provide added protection for data management information.
Authentication schemes such as RADIUS, TACACS+, Kerberos, LDAP and
RSA Security's SecurID ensure easy access for users.
